A Day in the Life of an AHV Hypervisor Engineer:

Nutanix encourages its engineers to actively contribute to the open-source community. Contributions made in this role will often become part of the broader open-source ecosystem, benefiting the community and future technologies.

Problems You’ll Solve:

  • Continuously disrupt existing designs to enhance customer experience.
  • Innovate around zero-touch upgrades for customers, including:
  • Improving VM live migration speed and predictability.
  • Rethinking hypervisor upgrades to avoid unnecessary reboots.

Your Role:

As a Linux Kernel Developer, you will:

  • Constantly seek ways to improve the product by learning from customer interactions.
  • Design and propose solutions backed by research and quantifiable results.
  • Communicate ideas clearly across geographically diverse teams.
  • Participate in design discussions, even outside your technical comfort zone.
  • Mentor junior engineers, encouraging curiosity and skill development.
  • Assist in critical customer escalations when required.
  • Engage with open-source communities, contributing improvements back into community projects.

What You Will Bring:

Must-Haves:

  • Strong operating systems and systems engineering fundamentals.
  • Low-level coding and debugging experience, ideally on x86 hardware architecture.
  • Ability to write and maintain enterprise-grade code.
  • Deep problem-solving and system design skills.
  • Proven track record of shipping enterprise-quality features with at least 8 years of experience.

Good-to-Haves:

  • Experience with x86 virtualization and the KVM stack.
  • Contributions to the Linux kernel or virtualization stack.

Desired Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience building enterprise-grade software, with leadership or guidance experience preferred.
